The 4-Day Love Affair

It only took four days for me to fall in love with Jamaica. I’ve spent the last few days in paradise, and I’ve spent most of today wondering how I can make my life paradise. It’s been over a month since I’ve written because I’d lost inspiration and direction. It’s amazing what a difference fours days surrounded by new sights, adventures and people can make. I fell in love with the smell of the air, the fresh fruit dangling from branches, and the stress free nature of the people.

Could you imagine meeting people who could count the amount of times they used the internet? What about people who didn’t use social media? Have you every met a group of people who despite being away from their family and spending all day at work felt that “life was good”? It makes you wonder what you really need to be happy, and if we’re living in excess. I mean surely if they are happy with no internet and fresh food growing from trees, I can do without some of my possessions.

So, the question still remains, how do I create a life I don’t want to escape from? I hope this experience changes me for the better, and I plan to figure out the answer to that question.

Why I Have No Blog Posts

I will have no blog posts this week, but I have a very good excuse. Normally, I spend my weekend writing blogs for the following weeks. This weekend was spent taking chances on slot machines and indulging in free cocktails at the Coushatta Casino Resort. This was my first time at the Coushatta, and my second time at a casino. It was a nice getaway, but I think I’ll stick to my natural talents. Gambling isn’t one of them.

My goal this week is to finish my social media e-book which will be available on my website. I’ll keep you posted on that. Anyways, I hope everyone has a great week!

 

 

 

 

My Other Passion

Do you mind if I venture off topic for a moment? I want to talk a little about my other passion.

I would call my life kind of challenging. I have a lot going on right now, and I thank God for giving me the strength to get from point A to point B. I also thank my body.  Remember the saying be good to your body and your body will be good to you? Because I have so many things to do in between waking up and going to bed, I try to do my best in the health and fitness area.When I eat junk food and fried foods, it takes a toll on my energy. Of course, I have my weaknesses like oreos and anything that’s bread, but I’m seeking counseling(jk). If you’re on a budget or have limited time, here are some tips.

  • No Gym, No Problem: Before you spend $40/month on a membership, check out other alternatives to getting your sexy back. I alternate between Jillian Michael’s Ripped in 30, Jillian Micheal’s 6-Week 6-Pack, Simply Yoga App, and Nike Training Club App. Social media sites like Pinterest and Instagram are full of at-home workouts.
  • Break the Fast: I know you’ve heard this before, but breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And, breakfast doesn’t have to be “breakfast” food. My breakfast is sometimes tilapia, spinach and sweet potato. Other days I’ll have a wheat waffle, eggs, fruit bowl and a smoothie. Mix it up so you don’t get bored.
  • H20 is the Way to Go: Water is good for plants, but it’s great for you! I believe 8 glasses is the recommended amount.

I usually start my days at 6am, and end them at about midnight. I would not be able to do this without having a healthy lifestyle.  I love health and fitness, but balance is very important. Try not to deprive yourself of the things you love. It’s all about moderation.

When I’m Not Writing

All work and no play sends me into stress mode. These are a few highlights from my week. I think I did more celebrating during the week than I will this weekend. When I’m not writing, I love to eat and hang out with friends. It’s so important to step away from the computer sometimes. I’m finally starting to find the balance!

10 Day Notice

 

10 Day notice? You’re probably asking yourself “what the hell is she talking about.” Well, I turned in a 10 day notice at my job, so the social media and writing world now has my full attention. Don’t everyone hire me at once :). I want to share a little of my journey with you, and it may help you take the big step.

While I won’t disclose the company, I will say that I’ve been unhappy for quite some time. As the Communication/Office Coordinator my job consisted of social media, review management, clerical tasks, and so much more. It was my first job after college, and for several months I was just happy to have a nice paycheck. After about three months I started to notice a few things:

  1. I did not have freedom to use the creativity and writing style that I loved.
  2. There was an entrepreneur seed that began to grow inside of me.
  3. I realized I loved my job duties but I did not enjoy working for an asshole(excuse my language).

Like any other young woman, I began applying to hundreds of other positions. Although I had great experience, I really didn’t have much luck finding a job. I was applying for a job and researching more about starting my own business at the same time. But wait, “what makes you think you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur.” is what the voice inside of my head was telling me. Anyways, fast forward past hundred of job applications, a bunch of start-up articles, and my savior Marie Forleo, and I’m at this point. I’m saying goodbye to stability and welcoming risk with open arms.

All it took was more faith than fear. I will be providing Freelance Writing and Social Media services!
